Who are the people behind the company?

Jess and Nuno.

Why do you do what you do?

We worked together at another online retailer of furniture in a past lifetime. When we started, the company was small and the work was fun. Then the company grew, and the core values that attracted us in the first place went out the window. When the small, intimate, customer-focused mentality of the company was replaced with talk of stock options and non-compete agreements, it was time to go.

What kind of people will I be buying from?

Good people. I know, that’s not saying much. But really. We’ve done this before and learned from the mistakes of others. And we believe that we can do it better. A lot of online retailers talk about building trust with their customers. Unfortunately for them, corporations are inanimate objects and trust is a human emotion. (Sorry R2D2.)

That’s why we put a face to everything we do.

What does your company stand for?

We want Nikko to be synonymous with customer service. Yes, we realize all retailers say that. But we have the history to prove it. Here is just a sampling of our customer testimonials since going into business in 2006:

What does your company stand against?

We stand against walls, trees (when outdoors), sometimes our co-workers. But we prefer sitting. As a matter of fact, we all sit on the Lider Chair.

Who is Nikko and why do you have ruby slippers on your about page?

Nikko was the leader of the flying monkeys in “The Wizard of Oz.” At our previous company, we were amazed at the number of people who were willing to “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain” and actually complete a purchase. Imagine the potential of a company that uses genuine customer interactions instead of smoke and mirrors to close a sale.

(In case you’re wondering, we don’t sell curtains, but we have plenty of mirrors.)

How is Nikko making this world a better place?

Starting this year, we will donate 1% of our revenue to charity. Why? Well, there’s three of us, and splitting 100% among three people in equal amounts is impossible. One of us always got an extra penny, which led to many a disagreement. So we decided to give every penny on the dollar away. And everyone is happy.
